The famed Cuban pianist and composer Jesus – Chucho – Valdés, announced it is preparing a new album with her group label Afrocuban Messengers and several guest musicians.
After performing in numerous cities in the U.S. – where he gave 22 concerts – Chucho scheduled for later this year a new look at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York.
Winner of eight Grammy Awards, the legendary performer plans to be accompanied, on this occasion, for two important exponents of contemporary Cuban jazz: Aldo Lopez Gavilan and Dayramir Gonzalez, who currently holds a scholarship from Berklee College.
In another meeting with the American public, Valdes also submit to the Yoruba group Andabo; paradigmatic artist of diverse variants of the Rumba complex, recently proclaimed National Cultural Heritage Cuban.
It has also scheduled to perform along with three other virtuoso pianists Latin: Brazilian Egberto Gismonti, the Panamanian Danilo Pérez Rubalcaba and Cuban Gonzalito.

El afamado pianista y compositor cubano Jesús – Chucho – Valdés, anunció que prepara un nuevo álbum discográfico junto a su agrupación Afrocuban Messengers y varios músicos invitados.
Después de presentarse en numerosas ciudades de Estados Unidos – donde ofreció 22 conciertos – Chucho ha programado para finales de año una nueva presentación en el mítico Carnegie Hall de Nueva York.
Ganador de ocho premios Grammy, el legendario instrumentista planea estar acompañado, en esta ocasión, por dos relevantes exponentes del jazz cubano contemporáneo: Aldo López Gavilán y Dayramir González, quien actualmente es becario del Berklee College.
En el nuevo encuentro con el público estadounidense, Valdés presentará también al grupo Yoruba Andabo; paradigmático intérprete de las más diversas variantes del complejo de la Rumba; recientemente proclamada Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación Cubana.
Igualmente, ha programado actuar junto a otros tres virtuosos pianistas latinos: el brasileño Egberto Gismonti, el panameño Danilo Pérez y el cubano Gonzalito Rubalcaba.
Por otra parte, Chucho Valdés se muestra muy complacido por la salida al mercado japonés de una línea de pianos que lleva su nombre.
Dijo sentirse muy honrado con la aparición de la marca Chucho, y subrayó que los diseñadores y fabricantes tuvieron muy en cuenta la especial sonoridad del jazz latino.
En torno al ya reconocido jazz afrocubano, afirmó que éste ha evolucionado, pero mantiene sus esencias, y es aceptado internacionalmente como una de las corrientes maestras del género.

Omara Portuondo y Luis Carbonell (que falleciera recientemente), figuras antológicas del arte cubano, fueron distinguidos por la Asamblea Provincial de Santiago de Cuba.
La mundialmente admirada Diva del Buena Vista Social Club recibió el Escudo de esa ciudad oriental, al tiempo que el también legendario artista – reconocido como “El acuarelista de la poesía antillana” – fue declarado Hijo Ilustre de Santiago de Cuba.
Durante su visita a la más caribeña de las ciudades cubanas, Omara Portuondo obsequió dos conciertos al pueblo santiaguero, celebrados en los prestigiosos escenarios de la Sala Dolores y el Teatro Martí.

La multimedia “Ernesto Lecuona” ha sido presentada en Cuba como parte de las variadas acciones culturales de la recién concluida vigésimo primera edición de la Feria Internacional del Libro.
La obra, de imprescindible consulta para especialistas y amantes de la obra del sobresaliente pianista y compositor, sale al mercado en el año del centenario de La Comparsa; antológica obra de Ernesto Lecuona.
El flamante producto audiovisual contiene cuatro secciones principales: Vida, Obra, Intérpretes y Galería, a la que se sumarán luego Ensayos y Discografía”. Entre sus características fundamentales destacan la presencia de 31 valiosas partituras, 150 imágenes y 8 videos.
Durante la Feria del Libro Cuba-2012 también fue presentada la multimedia “Aquí se enciende la candela”, dedicada a la emblemática orquesta cubana Los Van Van.
Una serie de conciertos para celebrar el aniversario 40 del surgimiento del Movimiento de la Nueva Trova Cubana se desarrollarán durante todo el presente año, con la participación de creadores de todo el país.
Numerosos trovadores se suman a estos festejos, en los que participarán, además, Omara Portuondo y las agrupaciones Moncada y Manguaré, entre otros muchos artistas.
Como es conocido, el Movimiento de la Nueva Trova fue fundado tras concluir el Primer Encuentro de Jóvenes Trovadores, en la oriental ciudad de Manzanillo, el dos de diciembre de 1972.
De su génesis forman parte esencial Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Noel Nicola, Sara González, Augusto Blanca, Lázaro García y otros relevantes cantores-poetas.
