The president, who stars with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro an operating approach that ends more than 50 years of absence of bilateral relations, will meet tomorrow with the Cuban head of state in New York, on the sidelines of the international meeting .
Obama put the new US policy toward Cuba as an example that the doctrine of dialogue works and bears fruit: US and Cuba reestablished bilateral relations in July, after more than half a century of disruption and ideological confrontation.

In the presence of Castro, the Democratic leader acknowledged once again that the policy of isolation of the island who had conducted his predecessors in the White House failed.

Also, yesterday I met with a group of local businessmen and executives headed by President and Vice President of the United States Chamber of Commerce, Tom Donohue and Jodi Bond.

“SEGURO EL CAMBIO LLEGARÁ A CUBA Y EL EMBARGO ACABARÁ LEVANTÁNDOSE”: PRES. OBAMA EN LA ONU.
El mandatario, quien protagoniza junto con su colega cubano Raúl Castro un operativo de acercamiento que pone fin a más de 50 años de inexistencia de relaciones bilaterales, se reunirá mañana con el jefe del Estado cubano en Nueva York, en un aparte de la cita internacional.
Obama puso la nueva política de Estados Unidos hacia Cuba como ejemplo de que la doctrina del diálogo funciona y da sus frutos: Estados Unidos y Cuba restablecieron relaciones bilaterales en julio, después de más de medio siglo de ruptura y enfrentamiento ideológico.
Obama en la ONU: “El cambio llegará a Cuba y el embargo se levantará”.
En presencia de Castro, el líder demócrata reconoció una vez más que la política de aislamiento de la isla que habían llevado a cabo sus predecesores en la Casa Blanca fracasó.
“Durante 50 años, Estados Unidos siguió una política hacía Cuba que fracasó a la hora de mejorar la vida de los cubanos. Hemos cambiado esto”, señaló Obama ante el plenario.
El presidente norteamericano recordó que continúan teniendo “diferencias” con el gobierno cubano y que su administración sigue defendiendo la necesidad de mejorar los derechos en la isla. “Pero ahora abordamos estos asuntos a través de las relaciones diplomáticas y un aumento del comercio”, explicó Obama.
Estados Unidos y Cuba restablecieron formalmente relaciones bilaterales el pasado 20 de julio. Los expertos aseguran que no habrá una normalización de las relaciones hasta que Estados Unidos no levante el embargo.
Aunque Obama ha tomado medidas para relajar el bloqueo, no puede decretar por su cuenta su levantamiento. Sólo el Congreso puede levantar el embargo en su totalidad.
..Castro está desde el jueves pasado en Nueva York, donde cumple su primera visita a Estados Unidos en más de cinco décadas, y hoy hablará por primera vez ante la Asamblea General de la ONU.
El mandatario cubano disertó el sábado durante la Cumbre del Desarrollo Sostenible, ocasión en la que volvió a condenar el embargo y reconoció el acercamiento actual con el gobierno de Obama.
“El bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero contra Cuba por más de medio siglo causa desafíos y privaciones al pueblo cubano y es el principal obstáculo para el desarrollo económico de nuestro país”, afirmó.
“El restablecimiento de las relaciones diplomáticas entre Cuba y Estados Unidos, la apertura de embajadas y los cambios que el presidente Barack Obama ha declarado en la política hacia nuestro país constituyen un importante avance”, agregó.
Al margen de su actividad en la ONU, Castro se reunió en Nueva York con el ex presidente estadounidense Bill Clinton y el gobernador y el alcalde neoyorquinos, Andrew Cuomo y Bill de Blasio.
Asimismo, ayer sostuvo un encuentro con un grupo de empresarios y ejecutivos locales encabezado por el presidente y la vicepresidenta de la Cámara de Comercio de Estados Unidos, Tom Donohue y Jodi Bond.
