Cientos de miles de jóvenes cubanos, muchos por debajo de mayoría de edad, disfrutaron este domingo del concierto de la banda norteamericana ‘Major Lazer’ en La Habana, que convirtió su emblemático malecón en una masiva furia multitudinaria.
En el espacio conocido como la Tribuna Antiimperialista, en pleno malecón y frente a la nueva embajada de Estados Unidos de la capital cubana, el trío de electro-house ‘Major Lazer’ se convirtió este domingo en el primer conjunto estadounidense en protagonizar un evento musical masivo tras el restablecimiento de relaciones entre los dos países.
“Este va a ser nuestro mayor show y lo estamos haciendo en La Habana”, prometió al inicio del concierto el líder de la banda y reconocido productor Diplo, y no defraudó a juzgar por el entusiasmo con el que los alrededor de 400.000 asistentes saltaron y corearon sus temas.
Un repertorio probado en las listas de éxitos hizo vibrar a una multitud que conocía bien hits como Be together o Revolution, fundamentalmente a través del “paquete”, que distribuye semanalmente en la isla, en soportes digitales a precios módicos y de manera un tanto clandestina, las novedades de cine, música y televisión.
Aunque los momentos cumbre de la actuación se produjeron cuando resonaron por todo el malecón éxitos Lean On -número uno en medio mundo y el tema más reproducido en la plataforma Spotify en 2015-, o Where Are Ü Now el éxito de Diplo, junto con Justin Bieber y Skrillex, que se acaba llevar el Grammy a la mejor colaboración musical del año pasado.
Diplo, Jillionaire y Walshy Fire alternaron su paso por la mesa de mezclas, donde fusionaron los ritmos más house de su propia producción musical, con éxitos del pop del momento como Sorry de Justin Bieber o Can’t feel my face de The Weeknd.
Fueron osados, en sus mezclas también se atrevieron con el merengue de Elvis Crespo o con la salsa de La vida es un carnaval de Celia Cruz; un maridaje arriesgado que puso un poco de sabor caribeño al show.
Constantes guiños para conectar con un público entregado, además de ondear en varias ocasiones la bandera cubana y de intentar alguna frase en español; a mitad de la actuación el trío -y el trío de bailarinas que les acompañan-; saltó al escenario con la camiseta de la selección cubana de béisbol, el deporte nacional.
Precisamente el equipo nacional jugará el próximo 22 de marzo un partido amistoso en La Habana con los Rays de Tampa de las Grandes Ligas; otro acto cargado de simbolismo en la Cuba del deshielo y que contará con un invitado de lujo, el presidente Barack Obama, el primer gobernante de EE.UU que visita la isla en 88 años.

El Concierto de Major Lazer es la antesala de Musicabana, un gran festival que se celebrará por primera vez en mayo con artistas como el jamaicano Sean Paul o el brasileño Carlinhos Brown y que, según sus organizadores, pretende promover La Habana como una de las capitales musicales del mundo y reforzar su status de enlace de culturas.
