Havana and several U.S. Internet providers are negotiating how to expand access to Cuba, one of the most disconnected from the hemisphere countries service.

The negotiations were recognized by the Cuban official Josefina Vidal, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) Cuban, in his Twitter account. Vidal took part in an Exchange with the social network users who asked questions after conclusion of the most recent meeting of the Bilateral Commission.
“The Cuban telecommunications company has contracts already signed with five companies of the United States to provide various services. It is my knowledge which is exchanging with some of these companies about the possibility of Internet access service”, said Director general for Affairs of the United States of the MINREX from the offices that owns Twitter in Washington.
In recent months the Government of the Caribbean island has been involved in negotiations with companies such as Google, exploring the possibility of extending the use of the Internet in Cuba. The State has installed points of Wi-fi access throughout the country, although the service is poor quality and excessively expensive for the common Cuban.
The same Josefina Vidal acknowledged during the exchange of questions and answers on Twitter, that new measures of President Obama to ease the embargo on Cuba have favored especially to the area of telecommunications.
In Cuba, the Government has blocked in turn certain pages whose content is opposite to the official propaganda, and the blocked websites include the own CubaNet.

La Habana y varios proveedores estadounidenses de Internet están negociando cómo ampliar el acceso al servicio Cuba, uno de los países más desconectados del hemisferio.

Las negociaciones fueron reconocidas por la funcionaria cubana Josefina Vidal, del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (MINREX) cubano, en su cuenta de Twitter. Vidal participó en un intercambio con usuarios de la red social que hicieron preguntas luego de concluida la más reciente reunión de la Comisión Bilateral.
“La Compañía Cubana de Telecomunicaciones tiene contratos firmados ya con cinco compañías de Estados Unidos para prestar distintos servicios. Es de mi conocimiento que con algunas de estas compañías se está intercambiando sobre la posibilidad del servicio de acceso a Internet”, dijo la directora general para Asuntos de Estados Unidos del MINREX desde las oficinas que posee Twitter en Washington.
En los últimos meses el gobierno de la isla caribeña ha estado implicado en negociaciones con compañías como Google, explorando la posibilidad de extender el uso de Internet en Cuba. El Estado ha inslatado puntos de acceso Wi-fi por todo el país, aunque el servicio es de poca calidad y excesivamente caro para el cubano común.
La misma Josefina Vidal reconoció, durante el intercambio de preguntas y respuetas en Twitter, que las nuevas medidas del presidente Obama para flexibilizar el embargo a Cuba han favorecido especialmente al área de las telecomunicaciones.
En Cuba, el gobierno mantiene bloqueadas a su vez ciertas páginas cuyo contenido es opuesto a la propaganda oficial, y entre los sitios bloqueados se encuentra el propio CubaNet.
