RECORDANDO AL GRAN HOMBRE DE CUBA, JOSÉ MARTÍ.

En el mes aniversario del nacimiento del gran cubano que fue José Martí, abrimos estas páginas para reflejar algunos de sus ejemplos y enseñanzas que todavía son perdurables en el actual momento oscuro en que vive nuestro país, Cuba.

Hay muchas anécdotas en la vida del gran hombre y humano que fue José Martí: opina que las personas son como son y no como queremos que sean y que en la criatura “…más ruin se hallan los gérmenes de la criatura más alta, y en la más alta, los gérmenes de la más ruin”.
Recordemos a una de estas anécdotas en esa gran vida que dió nuestra patria:
Corrían los años en la preparación de la gran guerra por la liberación de nuestra patria contra la imposición de la España de entonces. Se encontraba nuestro apóstol en Tampa, Florida en el recorrer revolucionario. Después de la comida, Martí siente un gusto raro, ardor en la boca, en la garganta… Expulsa casi todo el sorbo del vino que acompaña el almuerzo. Dañado física y espiritualmente lo encuentra el doctor Barbarrosa. El médico examina la botella: “¡Ácido! No obstante, lo haré analizar”, José Martí le ordena: “De esto, amigo, ¡ni una palabra!”
Cambia de domicilio hacia el hogar de Paulina Pedroso, frente al taller tabacalero Martínez Ibor, en Tampa, Estados Unidos, a insistencia de los allegados que sospechan de dos individuos que le ofrecieron casa y cuidados y de seguro están reclutados por enemigos de la libertad de Cuba. Ella y Ruperto, el esposo, más que atenderlo son como progenitores.
Uno de los sospechosos se presenta allí a los pocos días. Desea hablar con Martí. Ruperto intenta atacarlo. El Apóstol evita la pelea y se encierra en la habitación con el recién llegado. Media hora después, el visitante sale cabizbajo, y con los ojos enrojecidos.
En cuanto se va, Ruperto censura al organizador de la Guerra Necesaria por la excesiva confianza. Martí le responde: “Ese será uno de los que dispararán en Cuba los primeros tiros”. No se equivoca: Valentín Castro Córdova llegaría a ser un comandante mambí.
Sus enseñanzas.
Se debe luchar contra la ruindad y fortalecer lo que conduce hacia la cúspide. Conoce de la urgencia de las alas; conserva los pies sobre la tierra. Labora al estilo de la parábola del hijo pródigo, sin caer en excesos; y comprende que la tarea no es de imponer sino de convencer.
Cuenta con la potencia de su obrar y su verbo y tanto amor pleno, contagioso hasta para el más escéptico. Percibe los derroteros hacia la vergüenza del ser humano y cómo ponerla a flotar cual bandera. En vísperas de la Guerra Necesaria, confiesa José Maceo, recién casado entonces, que solo Martí logró hacerlo abandonar ese nuevo nido pasional e incorporarse a la conflagración debido al patriotismo y las palabras hermosas de este.
No ignora que los hombres son todavía “…máquinas de comer y relicario de preocupaciones y hay que hacer de cada hombre una antorcha”, y con esa antorcha quemar rezagos, debilidades y dar calor a las virtudes”.
Además, afirma: ”Un pueblo es composición de muchas voluntades, viles o puras, francas o torvas…Hay que deponer mucho, que atar mucho, que sacrificar mucho, que apearse de la fantasía, que echar pie a tierra con la patria revuelta, alzando por el cuello a los pecadores…”1.
Vigencia en el canto y la acción por la unidad: del Partido Revolucionario cubano y la prensa en un solo sendero, el del pueblo: sueños, combates, realismo, flexibilidad, inteligencia; ir a la dignidad del ser humano, despertarla, y bregar especialmente entre los más débiles y las zonas más lesionadas por las flaquezas; “…tener fe en lo mejor del hombre y desconfiar de lo peor de él”, pero esforzarse para que prospere lo mejor, “…para que se revele y prevalezca sobre lo peor”; esa picota que pide “…para quien les azuza a odios inútiles; y otra para quien no les dice a tiempo la verdad…”

REMEMBERING JOSÉ MARTÍ, THE GREAT MAN OF CUBA.
In the month was born the great Cuban that José Martí was we open these pages to reflect some of his teachings that are still enduring in today’s dark time that our country still is going through.
