William Levy never enjoyed a video game in his native Cuba, but now kills zombies and becomes action hero in “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”, a path that still forces him to pinch to verify that it is real, he said in An interview with Efe.
“I planned to leave Cuba long before they started filming this franchise,” said Levy, who left the island 14 years after his father won political asylum in the United States. “In fact, I could not have seen the movies there because Cuba does not get shit,” he added.
“Now I do not know how it will be,” he continued, “but 20 years ago there were no video games there. In Cuba, there was only one television in black and white and we could only watch it from 6 in the afternoon. There were three programs and then it was over. To sleep. There was no electricity for 15 hours to save energy. ”
Levy, after arriving in Miami, went to high school without knowing English and got a scholarship to go to college thanks to his ability as a baseball player, although he decided to leave school to help his mother financially.
That’s why he started working on construction, until one day, after going to pay a fine, he saw a modeling agency and went in to try his luck. He left with a contract under his arm and shortly after traveled the world parading on catwalks in New York, Paris or Los Angeles.
“I went from making $ 15 a day in the construction to making a lot more, but I wanted to be an actor. So I moved to Los Angeles to learn, “he said.
After being named in telenovelas such as “Mi vida eres tú”, “Acorralada”, “Pasión”, “Cuidado con el ángel” and “Sortilegio”, among others, in 2012 took advantage of his participation in “reality” Stars “to appear before the Anglo-Saxon public.

“Being part of this is crazy,” he acknowledged. “The truth, I did not read the damn script before accepting it. It is my great leap into the American market. Something I always dreamed of since I got on that boat from Cuba. I still have to pinch myself every day to see that all this is real. ”
“In the movie I’m a guy who seems to be a magnet for problems. Many things happen because of him. And the character of Milla joins his group, but he does not trust her or anyone else. WILLIAM LEVY: “SER PARTE DE ESTO ES UNA LOCURA”.
William Levy nunca disfrutó de un videojuego en su Cuba natal, pero ahora mata zombis y se convierte en héroe de acción en “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”, una trayectoria que le obliga aún a pellizcarse para comprobar que es real, según dijo en una entrevista con Efe.
“Yo planeaba abandonar Cuba mucho antes de que empezaran a rodar esta franquicia”, explicó Levy, que salió de la isla con 14 años después de que su padre lograra asilo político en EEUU. “De hecho, no podría haber visto las películas allí porque a Cuba no llega una mierda”, añadió.
“Ahora no sé cómo será”, continuó, “pero hace 20 años no existían los videojuegos allí. En Cuba únicamente tenía una televisión en blanco y negro y solo la podíamos ver desde las 6 de la tarde. Había tres programas y después, se acabó. A dormir. No había electricidad durante 15 horas para ahorrar energía”.
Levy, tras llegar a Miami, acudió al instituto sin saber inglés y logró una beca para ir a la universidad gracias a sus dotes como jugador de béisbol, aunque decidió dejar los estudios para ayudar económicamente a su madre.
Por eso comenzó a trabajar en la construcción, hasta que un día, tras ir a pagar una multa, vio una agencia de modelos y entró a probar suerte. Salió de allí con un contrato bajo el brazo y poco después recorría el mundo desfilando en pasarelas de Nueva York, París o Los Ángeles.
“Pasé de ganar 15 dólares al día en la construcción a ganar mucho más, pero yo quería ser actor. Así que me mudé a Los Ángeles para aprender”, sostuvo.
Tras labrarse un nombre en telenovelas como “Mi vida eres tú”, “Acorralada”, “Pasión”, “Cuidado con el ángel” y “Sortilegio”, entre otras, en 2012 aprovechó su participación en el “reality” “Dancing with the Stars” para presentarse ante el público anglosajón.
Aquello le sirvió para hacerse un hueco en pequeñas producciones de Hollywood como “Addicted” y “Single Moms Club”, pero ahora le llega su gran oportunidad con la última entrega de “Resident Evil”, adaptación del célebre videojuego de Capcom, una saga que ha recaudado casi mil millones de dólares con sus cinco películas previas.
“Ser parte de esto es una locura”, reconoció. “La verdad, ni leí el maldito guión antes de aceptarlo. Es mi gran salto al mercado estadounidense. Algo con lo que siempre soñé desde que me subí a aquel barco desde Cuba. Aún tengo que pellizcarme cada día para comprobar que todo esto es real”, agregó.
“En la película soy un tipo que parece ser un imán para los problemas. Por su culpa ocurren muchas cosas. Y el personaje de Milla se une a su grupo, pero él no se fía de ella ni de nadie. No va a arriesgar su vida por una desconocida. Es un superviviente”, indicó el actor, que no duda en calificar el filme como “el mejor” de la saga.
