The Telecommunications Company of Cuba reduced from this Thursday the tariff for national navigation from 0.25 to 0.10 CUC per hour. The discount, the second in less than four months, seeks to capture users towards a mode of navigation in local sites with very little popularity.
The new fee has been implemented “in order to facilitate the search of websites of cultural, informative and investigative interest of national contents”, according to an Etecsa statement. Along with the decrease in the costs of navigation, has also lowered the value of the minimum recharge that will be 0.10 CUC.
“Multiple websites and portals exist in our national network that will allow you to carry out school tasks and get to know the cultural billboards throughout the country,” the text said.
The Government has a monopoly over the hosting of sites on national servers and all domains ending in .cu are under its control. However, surveys conducted among Cuban Internet users reflect their preferences for connecting to social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, as well as international news sites, services, chats and dating.

MONOPOLIO DE TELECOMUNICACIONES NACIONAL “ETECSA” REBAJA TARIFA DEL INTERNET.
La Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba rebajó a partir de este jueves la tarifa para la navegación nacional de 0,25 a 0,10 CUC la hora. El descuento, el segundo en menos de cuatro meses, busca captar usuarios hacia una modalidad de navegación en sitios locales con muy poca popularidad.
La nueva tarifa se ha implementado “con vistas a facilitar la búsqueda de sitios web de interés cultural, informativo e investigativo de contenidos nacionales”, según un comunicado de Etecsa. Junto a la disminución en los costos de la navegación, también se ha bajado el valor de la recarga mínima que será de 0,10 CUC.
“Múltiples son los sitios web y portales existentes en nuestra red nacional que le permitirán realizar tareas escolares y conocer las carteleras culturales de todo el país”, precisa el texto.
El Gobierno tiene el monopolio sobre el alojamiento de sitios en servidores nacionales y todos los dominios terminados en .cu están bajo su control. Sin embargo, encuestas realizadas entre los internautas cubanos reflejan sus preferencias por conectarse a redes sociales como Facebook o Twitter, además de sitios internacionales de noticias, servicios, chats y búsqueda de pareja.
