The mobilization for the May 1 parade began in Havana before midnight the day before. With the first light of dawn, the mass rally began in Revolution Square, full of allusions to the late exile Fidel Castro, slogans about unity and an emphatic commitment to the Government of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.
Minutes before the parade began, Cuban opponent Daniel Llorente Miranda mocked the security cordon and deployed a US flag in front of the grandstand, shouted several slogans and was quickly removed from the scene by the security forces.
Llorente held a similar demonstration a year ago, when the cruise ship Adonia reached the coast of Cuba. On that occasion he was repressed by the police, who removed him from the place.
Llorente, 54, is a taxi driver on his own and has been holding individual demonstrations against the government, although he is not affiliated with a dissident organization or group on the island.

La movilización para el desfile del 1 de mayo comenzó en La Habana antes de la medianoche del día anterior. Con las primeras luces del amanecer arrancó el acto masivo en la Plaza de la Revolución, cargado de alusiones al fallecido exlíder Fidel Castro, consignas sobre la unidad y un enfático compromiso con el Gobierno de Nicolás Maduro en Venezuela.
Minutos antes de comenzar el desfile el opositor cubano Daniel Llorente burló el cordón de seguridad y desplegó una bandera de Estados Unidos frente a la tribuna, gritó varias consignas y fue rápidamente sacado del lugar por las fuerzas de seguridad.
Llorente realizó una manifestación similar hace un año, cuando el crucero Adonia llegaba a las costas de Cuba. En aquella ocasión fue reprimido por la policía, quien lo sacó del lugar.
Llorente, de 54 años, es taxista por cuenta propia y viene realizando manifestaciones individuales de oposición al gobierno, aunque no está afiliado a ninguna organización o grupo disidente en la isla.
