SPANISH AIRLINE “ULTRA PLUS” EXPECTS TO CONNECT BARCELONA-HABANA-SANTIAGO DE CUBA.
Spanish airline ‘Plus Ultra’ made the last flight back from Havana to Barcelona on Saturday after inaugurating the new direct route on Saturday, which has become the first to unite, after two decades, the second largest city in Spain with the Capital of the island, reported EFE.
As of this weekend has been open the air connection with weekly direct flight operated by Plus Ultra in code-sharing with the state-owned Cubana de Aviación, in both directions.
Plus Ultra’s executive vice president, Julio Martínez Sola, presented the new itinerary of the Spanish airline a week ago in the Cuban capital and then said that it would be the first to respond to the demand of the Catalan market to have a non-stop flight to Cuba .

The flights are operated with a fleet of Airbus 340 Plus Ultra with capacity for 303 passengers.
In 2016, some 70,000 passengers made the Havana-Barcelona route using stops at other points, as there is no direct link between these two cities, according to data from Cuban airport authorities.
The company is the fourth Spanish airline to fly to Cuba, destination that already operate with regular routes Iberia, Air Europa and Evelop -perteneciente to trips Barceló-.
By 2017, Cuba expects to receive 4.2 million tourists.

La aerolínea española Plus Ultra realizó el domingo pasado el vuelo de regreso desde La Habana a Barcelona tras inaugurar el sábado la nueva ruta directa, que se ha convertido en la primera en unir, después de dos décadas, la segunda mayor ciudad de España con la capital de la Isla, reportó EFE.
A partir de este fin de semana ha quedado abierta la conexión aérea con vuelo directo semanal operado por Plus Ultra en código compartido con la estatal Cubana de Aviación, en ambas direcciones.
El vicepresidente ejecutivo de Plus Ultra, Julio Martínez Sola, presentó hace una semana en la capital cubana el nuevo itinerario de la aerolínea española y entonces señaló que sería la primera en responder a la demanda del mercado catalán de contar con un vuelo sin escala a Cuba.
Tras este paso inicial, la aerolínea española estudia ofertar una ruta “triangulada” entre Barcelona, La Habana y Santiago de Cuba, algo que considera “muy importante” para los circuitos turísticos porque daría oportunidad a los viajeros de visitar las dos ciudades más importantes de la Isla.
Los vuelos son operados con una flota de Airbus 340 de Plus Ultra con capacidad para 303 pasajeros.
En 2016 unos 70.000 viajeros realizaron el trayecto La Habana-Barcelona mediante escalas en otros puntos, al no existir el enlace directo entre estas dos ciudades, según datos de las autoridades aeroportuarias cubanas.
La compañía es la cuarta aerolínea española en volar a Cuba, destino que ya operan con rutas regulares Iberia, Air Europa y Evelop —perteneciente a viajes Barceló—.
Para 2017, Cuba espera recibir a 4,2 millones de turistas.
En lo que va de año, según datos del MINTUR, la llegada de españoles se incrementó en un 10%. El aeropuerto de La Habana registra un incremento de pasajeros. El aeropuerto internacional de La Habana recibió en el primer semestre de este año 3.300.000 viajeros, lo que supone un incremento del 27,4% con respecto al mismo periodo del año anterior, reportó EFE.
Autoridades del sector, citadas por la televisión estatal, afirmaron que esta cifra de pasajeros coloca al aeropuerto entre los que han recibido más visitantes extranjeros.
Alemania, Francia, Italia, Reino Unido y España estuvieron entre los países con mayor emisión de viajeros, además de Estados Unidos.
