CUBANS IN HOLLYWOOD: ANTHONY DE LA TORRE, SINGER, ACTOR WITH JOHNNY DEEP IN “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN” IN A NEW FILM.
Cuban-American Anthony de la Torre has hit the big screen, apparently to stay. He starred in the latest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga premiered last May, where he portrays a young Jack Sparrow.
In an interview with Latina magazine, the second generation Cuban-American, born in Ohio, said working with Johnny Depp was “very crazy.”
“The moment I got the audition it was like I got burned inside, I had maybe three days to get ready and I watched all four movies, three times in a row, I just walked around the house like Jack,” he said.
After casting, the young man received an email confirming that he had been chosen: “It was surreal, totally.”
De la Torre has just made his acting debut with Pirates of the Caribbean, but has spent more time focusing on music.
Asked about how his roots influenced his music, he said that “being Cuban has had a great impact”.
“Actually, I went to Cuba when I was 18 years old for a month and then I worked with that incredible Cuban artist called X Alfonso, he’s like Sting from the Island. I recorded some songs with him and we made a music video.”
About his beginnings as a singer, he said that he started with a YouTube channel when he was a teenager and how it was then the producer Desmond Child (the nephew of the Cuban singer Olga Guillot) who launched him to fame.

On television made his debut as Latino actor Anthony del Rey in the Nickelodeon comedy, 100 Things to Do Before High School (2016).
On his future projects the actor revealed that he has two more films that will come out this year: Johnny Gruesome and Lords of Chaos.
“Lords of Chaos is based on real events: it’s the story about black metal in Norway in the 1990s. It’s a satanic cult and Jonas Åkerlund directed it. He was actually a drummer of black metal bands in the 80’s , So if anyone was going to do it, it would be him.Ridley Scott is producing it.I’m excited about that, “he concluded.
