En el habla popular de los cubanos “Hacer leña del árbol caído”, entra en el rango del refranero popular.
En tiempos antiguos el leñador era una de las personas más populares, ya que el fruto de su quehacer propiciaba el material más común para calentar y cocinar en estufas fogones, parrilleros y barbacoas de manera natural o como carbón.
Las personas que se dedican al rudo trabajo de tumbar árboles tenían una “técnica” para aligerar su trabajo que consistían en clavar una cuña en la incipiente cortadura que habían hecho con el hacha con el fin de acelerar su caída con menor esfuerzo.
Al tomar una trozo del mismo tronco de la planta que se empeñaban en derribar el leñador se evita pegar muchos mas hachazos, aunque cuando se utilizan equipos como las sierras o las motosierras, no es necesario la colocación de esas cuñas de madera.
Es por eso que nació la frase “No hay peor cuña que la del mismo palo”, que se mantiene vigente en el hablar popular y se refiere al grave defecto de algunos humanos de ser particularmente desalmados con personas de su entorno.
El apotegma incluye a familiares, amigos, y en el caso de los que viven en el extranjero a nuestros coterráneos, ya que por desgracia el más cercano conoce nuestras limitaciones y puntos débiles y se aprovecha de ellos con mala intención.
“De tal palo tal astilla”, es otro término relacionado con el hacer de los leñadores y es que por lo general, el carácter y las costumbres se transmiten de padres a hijos, aunque se puede aplicar también a todo lo que se parece a su origen.
