The Cuban resort of Varadero, one of the tourist facilities severely damaged by the passage of Irma, according to the Cuban Ministry of Tourism will be ready for the month of November, facing the high season of tourism in Cuba.
Press reports on Varadero following Irma’s attacks were disastrous. Airport routes to hotels were virtually inaccessible and several hotel centers, homes and shops suffered electric outages and damage to infrastructure, a scenario that has caused a million dollar loss to the Cuban economy.
Although this tourist zone almost collapses in the face of the hurricane, services have already been restored in most hotels, according to the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism, Ivis Fernández.
The most affected were hotels in the tip of the Hicacos peninsula, especially in properties with glassware and aluminum marquetry, roofs and false ceilings, as well as elements of gardening, trees and public lighting, said the note.
The Varadero spa is one of the largest sources of income in Cuban tourism and annually is the destination of thousands of visitors from many around the world.
After Irma’s passage, this installation gave an image of distress and desolation due to the number of fallen trees, the mountains of debris on the street and the interruption of electricity and the services of airports.

The truth is that the authorities of the island, immersed in works of sanitation and recovery never before seen, are not willing to allow that Varadero and its tourist facilities stop to keep entering the national economy, especially in a year in which Cuba is prepared to break the record in the arrival of tourists.

El balneario cubano de Varadero, unas de las instalaciones turísticas severamente dañadas por el paso de Irma, según el ministerio cubano de Turismo estaran listas para el mes de noviembre, de cara a la temporada alta del turismo en Cuba.
Los reportes de prensa sobre Varadero tras los ataques de Irma fueron desastrosos. Las rutas del aeropuerto hacia los hoteles quedaron prácticamente inaccesibles y varios centros hoteleros, viviendas y tiendas sufrieron cortes eléctricos y daños en su infraestructura, un panorama que ha causado pérdidas millonarias a la economía cubana.

Si bien esta zona turística casi colapsa ante la fuerza del huracán, ya se ha podido restablecer los servicios en la mayoría de los hoteles, según la delegada del Ministerio de Turismo, Ivis Fernández.
Las mayores afectaciones fueron en los hoteles de la punta de la península de Hicacos, especialmente en inmuebles con materia de cristalería y marquetería de aluminio, cubiertas y falsos techos, así como en elementos de jardinerías, árboles y luminarias públicas, explicó la nota.
El balneario de Varadero constituye una de las mayores fuentes de ingreso en el turismo cubano y anualmente es el destino de miles de visita de muchas de todas partes del mundo.
Luego del paso de Irma esta instalación brindó una imagen de angustia y desolación por la cantidad de árboles caídos, las montañas de escombros sobre la calle y la interrupción de la electricidad y los de servicios aeroportuarios.
“Fue muy impactante. Trajeron cientos de turistas para evacuarse en las instalaciones más seguras y cuando salimos a la calle al día siguiente no reconocíamos el lugar. La belleza de las playas y el verde de la vegetación habían mutado en un paisaje con zonas grises y áridas que nos provocaron una rara sensación de molestia y temor, dijo a Cibercuba un comunicador y relacionista público de la oficina de turismo de este famoso balneario.
“Realmente el proceso de recuperación se inició rápido. Creo que en esta región iniciaron primero el trabajo para devolver Varadero a su paradisiaco estado natural” sugirió vía telefónica este joven graduado en la Universidad de La Habana que prefiere el anonimato.
Lo cierto es que las autoridades de la Isla, inmersa en trabajos de saneamiento y recuperación nunca antes visto, no están dispuestas a permitirse que Varadero y sus instalaciones turísticas dejen de mantenerse ingresando a la economía nacional, sobre todo en un año en que Cuba se preparaba para romper el record en el arribo de turistas.
