The Telecommunications Company of Cuba, ETECSA, has announced through Facebook that since December 8 it is allowed to send text messages (SMS) from any cell phone on the Island to any mobile phone in the United States.
The state company also points out that the messages will cost 0.60 CUC, the same rate that applies to the rest of international destinations.
To send a message from Cuba to the United States, first enter the plus sign (+), then the US code (1), then the local code (for example, 702, the Las Vegas code) and then the cell phone number. It would be like this +1702+ (cell phone number).
ETECSA also explains that the codes of the North American cities can be consulted in the informative pages of the Telephone Directory of Cuba.
Customers who have doubts can call from 118 to Cuba.
After the announcement, the opinions of users on the ETECSA page were divided between those who believe that it is “an abuse” to pay 0.60 CUC for sending a text message and those who applaud the news.

La Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba, ETECSA, ha anunciado a través de Facebook que desde este 8 de diciembre está permitido el envío de mensajes de texto (SMS) desde cualquier celular en la Isla a cualquier teléfono móvil en los Estados Unidos.
La compañía estatal apunta además, que los mensajes costarán 0,60 CUC, la misma tarifa que se aplica al resto de destinos internacionales.
Para enviar un mensaje desde Cuba a los Estados Unidos habrá primero que introducir el signo más (+), luego el código de EEUU (1), después el código de la localidad (por ejemplo, 702, el de Las Vegas) y a continuación el número de celular. Quedaría así +1702+(número de celular).
ETECSA explica además que los códigos de las ciudades norteamericanas pueden consultarse en las páginas informativas del Directorio Telefónico de Cuba.
Los clientes que tengan dudas podrán llamar desde Cuba al 118.
Tras el anuncio, las opiniones de los usuarios en la página de ETECSA se dividieron entre los que creen que es “un abuso” el pago de 0,60 CUC por el envío de un mensaje de texto y los que aplauden la noticia.
